New Forms for ‘Student’ and ‘Temporary Foreign Workers’ and updated form for ‘Visitors’ Effective15thFebruary2011
As of 15 February 2011, Students and Temporary Foreign Workers should use the new application forms accessible electronically through this website. In addition, an updated version of the Temporary Residents visa form will be available. All applicants in those categories should fill in their forms electronically and submit their application along with the 2D barcode generated following completion of the form. Failure to do so will result in processing delays.
New Requirement for Temporary Resident Visa Applications Effective October<
Previous Requirement for Temporary Resident Visa Applications Previously, the Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada [IMM5257B] application form was made available on the internet for the use of those applicants who wish to come to Canada on a temporary basis. Under previous rules, this application form could be completed by the Principal Applicant on behalf of the spouse or common-law partner, and for dependent children under 18 who may be accompanying them.
New Requirement for Temporary Resident Visa Applications Effective October As of October 1, 2010, a separate application form [IMM5257E] must be completed and submitted for each family member, regardless of age. Each applicant 18 and over must complete and sign their own application form. Those applicants under age 18 must have a parent or guardian complete and sign an individual application form on their behalf. For example, a family of 2 adults and two young children must submit a total of 4 application forms.
Dependent family members accompanying Temporary Residents, Students or Workers to Canada must complete and sign their own ‘Application for Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada’ [IMM5257E]. This means that if a student is applying for a study permit, he will submit an application for a study permit and his wife who is accompanying him will submit a separate application for a temporary resident visa.
Applications which include family members but fail to provide a completed and signed application form for each family member will not be processed and will be returned to the applicant.
Unclaimed Passports/Letters from VFS
It is the responsibility of applicants to collect the envelopes containing their letters and passports related to visa applications from the VFS. Unclaimed envelopes with passports/letters are sent back to the Canadian High Commission in Dhaka.
Applicants who fail to collect their envelopes within the timeframes indicated above must approach the passport office directly in order to obtain their passport back. Once passports have been handed over to the local passport authorities, the High Commission Of Canada and Consulate will no longer be responsible and unable to assist.
Information for Agents & Representatives
You may prepare and submit your application yourself, or by an individual who provides such services for free (family members, friends, non-governmental and religious organizations, etc.), or you may decide to hire an authorized representative to do so. An authorized representative must be either: immigration consultants who are members of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants; lawyers who are members of a Canadian law society; or notaries who are members of the Chambre des notaires du Québec. All applications are treated equally, regardless of whom it is submitted by. You, as the applicant, are responsible for all information submitted. Please be sure to review all the information on your form and ensure that all questions are answered truthfully before signing and dating the forms.
Agent Identification:
Please note that all persons who assist in the preparation of study permit applications must be identified in Question One of the Study Permit Questionnaire. If you are authorizing the release of your file information to an authorized representative, the person must be identified on form IMM 5476B.
Misrepresentation of Facts
If you or someone acting on your behalf directly or indirectly misrepresents facts relating to your application for a visa:
- Your application will be refused.
- The circumstances of your refusal will be entered into Canada's global immigration database.
- You could become inadmissible to Canada for 2 years under section 40(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Documents Required for Passport Collection (for Representatives)
If you plan to use a representative to collect your passport on your behalf, you are requested to provide a signed letter of authorization. Your representative must present this letter and proof of his or her identity in the form of photo ID (i.e. driving license, passport, or PAN card) along with the original acknowledgement slips provided by VFS at the time of intake of your application.
Minimum Processing Time
Due to the current high volume of applications, Temporary Resident Visitor Visa applications to visit Canada currently require 10 working days for an initial response (an initial response is an approved visa, refusal letter, request for documents, request to undergo medical exams or a request to attend a personal interview). We encourage you to adjust your planning accordingly. See the Processing Times page for processing times for temporary workers, and students.
Note: The days mentioned above are only indicative. The actual processing time is updated daily at the Visa Application Centre as per the current processing time taken by the Canadian High Commission. Please visit the centre for an updated time frame for your application”
We advise you to check/track your passport/visa application status by using the following three modes:-
APPLY EARLY FOR VISA!
The Canadian High Commission Dhaka, Bangladesh aims to provide an efficient and fair service to all customers.
Please work with us, by allowing plenty of time for your application to be processed. March - June are the busiest times of the year for us, and we may not be able to process your application as fast as usual if you apply during this time.
Where an interview is necessary, we aim to arrange this as quickly as possible, but you may wish to check the current timings with VFS before lodging your application.
You can apply for your visa up to 01 month before you wish to travel (02 months prior for student applications) - you may wish to bear this in mind when you are making your plans. If you know that you’ll be traveling within the next few months - please apply now, and beat the queue!
